GPD XD - Novice Guide to Legacy Rom 1.8GHz

So you are a Novice/Noob user and still want to take advantage of the power of Legacy Rom 1.8GHz.

This tutorial will walk you through the process of installing Kernel Adiutor on top of your Legacy Rom 1.8GHz upgrade.

Why Legacy Rom 1.8GHz?

Because it is the best firmware for your device hands down. Best performance for your emulators, android games and just overall app usage.

Why Kernel Adiutor ?

Because it enables the Novice/Noob user take full advantage of all the benfits that Legacy Rom 1.8GHz has to offer. The app makes switching between cpu frequencies Noob Friendly to minimize the risk of overworking your GPD XD.

I have worked out an easy way to install Legacy Rom 1.8GHz and basically put a "Turbo" button on your home screen that will allow you to simply push a button whenever you play high CPU demanding emulators like PPSSPP and Dreamcast emulators. once you are finished simply turn it off. Easy enough? I hope so.

Before you get started:

  • Make sure your GPD XD is FULLY charged. ( This is just to be safe- if you stop mid-installation you may brick your device. Then you will have to charge your device and do it over again anyway. )
  • Install Legacy Rom 1.8GHz using one of the 2 methods: ( ** If you already have it installed skip this step ** )

Easy Tutorial:

  1. Install Kernel Adiutor : [Shown on video- time: 0:32] Go to Google Play market and do a search for Kernel Adiutor and install it on your GPD XD with no configurations, just install. If you are installing from this tutorial just click here: Kernel Adiutor Link. You should know how to install an app, but if requested I will elaborate further. Exit to your home launcher after you finish.

  2. Setup " Turbo Off" profile : [Shown on video- time: 0:54 ] We will setup 3 main profiles to cover 3 basic speeds for your device. Steps are as follows:

    • [Shown on video- time: 0:55 ]: Tap on Kernel Adiutor to open it.
    • [Shown on video- time: 0:57 ]: You will get a notice to give Kernel Adiutor root access. Tap on " Grant ".
    • [Shown on video- time: 1:06 ]: Open " Menu " by tapping the icon at the top left.

    • [Shown on video- time: 1:26 ]: Tap on " New ".
    • [Shown on video- time: 1:31 ]: Tap on " OK ". This is just telling you that you are chaging your current CPU speed as you create the profile. This won't matter because will create the normal speed profile last.
    • [Shown on video- time: 1:37 ]: Tap on " CPU Maximum Frequency " on the left.
    • [Shown on video- time: 1:42 ]: Scroll down, find, and tap on " 1416MHz " . This is basically 1.4GHz the max speed at which Stock Firmware runs at, also Legacy Rom 1.4GHz.
    • [Shown on video- time: 1:45 ]: Tap on " CPU Governor " on the left.
    • [Shown on video- time: 1:49 ]: Tap on " interactive ".

    • [Shown on video- time: 2:12 ]: Scroll down, find, and tap on " 1608MHz " . This is basically 1.6GHz A step above Stock Firmware, and equivilant to Legacy Rom 1.6GHz.

    • [Shown on video- time: 2:28 ]: Tap on " OK ".
  4. Setup " Turbo Max" profile : [Shown on video- time: 2:31 ] This will be your best setting. This will run your GPD XD at its full potential. Make sure and only toggle to this profile on your high CPU demanding emulators like PPSSPP and Reicast (Dreamcast Emulator). Steps are as follows:

    • [Shown on video- time: 2:35 ]: Tap on " OK ".
    • [Shown on video- time: 2:37 ]: Tap on " CPU Maximum Frequency " on the left.
    • [Shown on video- time: 2:39 ]: Scroll down, find, and tap on " 1800MHz " . This is basically 1.8GHz. The highest possible frequency for the GPD XD, This setting will run faster than even Legacy Rom 1.8GHz because it will not have a low setting. With the next step we will lock the CPU at 1.8GHz.
    • [Shown on video- time: 2:42 ]: Tap on " CPU Governor " on the left.
